Sergeant Katherine Mattern began her career with the Papillion Police Department in 2002. She spent nine years on Road Patrol, five years in Investigations, and one year in Police Training and Accreditation before being promoted in 2017. She currently serves as Sergeant of the Crime Prevention Unit, which is comprised of our two DARE Officers/Community Liaisons and the Training Coordinator. Sergeant Mattern is our CALEA Accreditation Manager, ensuring our adherence to international police standards. She also manages the department’s Onboarding Program, which includes background investigations, new hire orientation, Sarpy Douglas Law Enforcement Academy liaison, and the Field Training program. She served the department as a Field Training Officer, Patrol Rifle Officer, Use of Force Instructor for 13 years, and a Negotiator on the South Metro SWAT team for 10 years. Sergeant Mattern has her Bachelors of Science degree in Strengths-Based Management from Bellevue University. While off duty, she enjoys time with family, remodeling, golf, travel, and is an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
